The General Dental Council (GDC) has announced the reappointment of Ilona Blue as a lay council member, following approval by the Privy Council.

Ms Blue’s new four-year term will commence on 1 April. She joined the Council in April 2022 and has served as Chair of the Finance and Performance Committee since October 2024.

Her executive career began in academia where she undertook public health research, before joining the civil service where she spent more than 20 years in four departments. She held the position of Group Finance Director at the Department for Transport from 2016 to 2022.

“Over the past four years, I’ve seen first-hand the vital role the GDC plays in protecting patients and maintaining public confidence in dental services,” she said.

“As a lay Council member, I bring my experience of public service, governance and financial management to help drive improvements in our planning and delivery. As chair of the Finance and Performance Committee, I look forward to supporting the GDC’s commitment to trusted and effective regulation.”

She is a non-executive director with social housing provider Accent Housing Group, a non-executive member and Audit Chair for Frimley NHS Integrated Care Board, and a non-executive director and Audit Chair at Active Travel England, an agency of the Department for Transport.
