Plans to turn a delpidated former cinema in Dunfermline city centre into a dental surgery have been withdrawn.

Aberdeen-based Dr Osama Mochli, of Dyce Dental Practice, had submitted an application for listed building consent for internal and external alterations at the former Robins Cinema building on East Port. Planned work included repairs to walls, repainting and installation of rooflights.

A planning statement had said that the proposals aimed to “sensitively reuse” the long-vacant premises as a modern dental surgery.

The plans lodged with Fife Council said that the ground floor accommodation would house the main public areas including a reception and waiting area, three surgeries and staff facilities. The first floor would be for additional surgeries alongside a dedicated waiting room, further WC provision, and space for clinical waste storage and plant.

The second floor would have included training space, changing facilities, dental laboratories, stock rooms and staff amenity areas. Office space on the third floor would have been used as the company’s headquarters.

The building has lain empty since 2011.
