The General Dental Council (GDC) has opened the annual renewal period for dentists.

The process ensures that dentists remain on the UK register. To streamline the renewal process, we have outlined three straightforward steps for dentists to complete by the respective deadlines.

  • Pay the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) by 31 December. More information about the ARF. The fee for dentists is £621. The fee for maintaining entry on the GDC’s specialist lists is £72 per specialty.
  • Indemnity cover: Dentists need to confirm they have, or will have, indemnity cover is in place by 31 December. For dentists covered under their employer’s policy, they will need to make sure they have access to the details of the policy.
  • Complete a CPD statement by 28 January. Dentists must complete a minimum of 10 hours of CPD over the last two-year period by 31 December.

If dentists are in the final year of the CPD cycle, they should ensure they have completed the minimum hourly requirements for the full cycle. Dentists who have registered within the last 12 months will start their first cycle on 1 January 2025.

The GDC is encouraging all registrants to complete a short working patterns survey as part of the renewal process on the eGDC.

The survey asks dentists how and where they work, and how long they work for each week. The feedback will continue to build the sector’s understanding of dentists’ working patterns and support future workforce planning.
