Dr Slaine Ker’s interest in dentistry began at just nine years-old, with an unfortunate poolside injury; climbing out, she slipped and smashed her two front teeth – resulting in multiple visits to the dentist.

Graduating from the Dublin Dental School at Trinity College, she spent two years in the Oral and Maxillofacial Unit at Galway University Hospital treating patients who had suffered from facial trauma and cancer.

Her career then took her to London where she secured an associate position in one of London’s Prestigious Harley Street practices.

Our contractors and project managers did an excellent job

“This was my introduction to cosmetic dentistry, and I spent the next 10 years in the capital city developing my skills. It was a steep but rewarding learning curve, working with some of the top dentists in the world and seeing how they approached patient care with the utmost attention to detail.

“Then I moved to Ruh Dental at their inaugural site on Fleet Street. They were just starting out, so it was quiet to begin with. This is when I started building an online following — figuring if I bring in my own patients, I could control my diary and focus on the treatments I liked doing.“

Then came the move to Edinburgh last year.

“It was for both personal and professional reasons,” said Dr Ker. “My husband is from Glasgow, so it allowed us to be closer to his family. We have two girls (two and three-years-old) so we did it partly for their quality of life.

“Once moving to Edinburgh was on the cards, we started looking into opening a practice here and soon realised we could take some of the aspects of London dentistry back to Edinburgh and create something very special and unique.”

The Row Dental, at 31 Albany Street in Edinburgh’s New Town, is a state-of-the-art dental clinic where Dr Slaine offers personalised private treatments for cosmetic dentistry. It is also expanding its referral practice including Orthodontics, Endodontics and Dental Implants.

Her team includes Dr Carol Tait, Specialist Endodontist, Dr Nirmal Shah, Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Duncan Weir, Implantologist, Martin Bullard, Cosmetic and Restorative, and Sophie Ma, Hygiene Therapist.

Located in a Grade A-listed building, The Row offers clients a sense of calmness, luxury, relaxation, and comfort the minute they walk through the door.

On the ground floor there is the reception, a dental surgery room, CBCT room and DDA compliant toilet. The second floor comprises four surgeries.

The top floor is home to a treatment coordinator room, staff facilities, manager’s office and a decontamination room.

“We signed a lease mid-October 2022 and handed the keys over to our contractors on the same day,” said Dr Ker.

“It was previously used as office space, so we had to carry out a full conversion.

“We got the keys back 10 weeks later with a fully-fledged dental practice. Our contractors and project managers did an excellent job.”

They included architect Christine Leeman (www.christineleemanarchitect.co.uk), BH Projects Group (www.bhprojectsgroup.co.uk), who managed the build, and equipment suppliers Kavo (www.kavo.com/en) and Durr Dental (www.duerrdental.com).
