The dental faculty of one of the UK’s leading surgical colleges has unveiled plans to hold its first World Dental Conference, in September.

The online conference is being organised by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s (RCSEd) Faculty of Dental Surgery, and will be open to industry professionals across the globe, including RCSEd members and non-members.

The conference will be divided into five sessions, each covering key topics and problems currently being faced by dental teams. The programme comprises 16 topics, with talks delivered by an array of highly respected industry speakers, as well as a live Q&A session with the panel at the end of each session.

Subjects set to be covered include dental imaging, medical complications in practice, periodontal considerations, dental aesthetics and patient and teams working together.

Professor Philip Taylor, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, said: “We are delighted to announce our first ever World Dental Conference and we’re very grateful to have secured such a fantastic line up of speakers who will spark some great discussions on the key areas we will be focusing on.

Professor Phil Taylor

“This conference is an excellent opportunity for dental teams throughout the world to learn about what’s new in the ever-changing field of dentistry, particularly in these challenging times, and it is open to every member of the dental team.

“Delegates who sign up for the conference will have access to all the live sessions and will also be able to view them for a further three months afterwards. Although this conference will be completely virtual, this is just the beginning of what we hope will become an annual event, with the possibility of introducing an in-person element in future.”

The last session will focus on patient and teams working together based on a subject area in which RCSEd’s Faculty of Dental Surgery is a world leader – the non-surgical aspect of patient care and safety. A presentation will be delivered by the College’s patient safety lead, Claire Morgan, who will outline the importance of understanding this aspect of care in every action a dental team takes.

The event will take place on 2-4 September and delegates can book their place at the World Dental Conference by visiting www.rcsed.ac.uk/WDC.

The registration fee is £60 for dentists (£50 for RCSEd members), £35 for DCPs and £10 for students and DCTs. Those who are not RCSEd members will also receive one year’s free affiliation to the Faculty of Dental Surgery when they sign up to the conference.
