Oban man prosecuted for illegally practising dentistry

21 August, 2014

The General Dental Council (GDC) has successfully prosecuted a former dental technician from Oban for unlawfully practising dentistry.

John McIntosh appeared before Oban Sheriff Court on 20 August and pleaded guilty to unlawfully practising dentistry at the Argyll and Bute Cosmetic Dental Studio in Combie Street, Oban, contrary to section 38 (1) and (2) of the Dentists Act 1984.

Mr McIntosh was struck off by the GDC on 3 May 2012 but, following complaints that he was continuing to practice while unregistered, an investigation was carried out on behalf of the GDC.

On 20 June 2013, he was found to be illegally practising dentistry, namely as a dental technician, at the Argyll and Bute Cosmetic Dental Studio.

Oban Sheriff Court ordered him to pay a fine of £1,000.
