Thousands miss ARF deadline
GDC removes DCPs from register after July deadline
More than 4,000 Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) have been removed from the General Dental Council’s (GDC’s) register after failing to pay their Annual Retention Fee (ARF) on time.
The annual deadline to pay the £120 fee passed on 31 July with 58,346 DCPs renewing their registration on time, while 4,012 missed the cut. This is compared with 4,339 who failed to re-register in 2011.
Assistant director of registration and operational excellence, Gurvinder Soomal, said: “The GDC works hard to ensure that all dental care professionals know about their ARF deadline and understand the consequences if they don’t renew their registration on time. But we are equally committed to making sure those who want to restore to our register are helped through this process.
“We are delighted with how this year’s renewals process has been handled and have seen a drop in the number of people being removed from the register.”
Those DCPs who wish to return to the register will now need to apply for restoration with the GDC, have a medical examination and provide a character reference, pay a £144 fee, provide evidence of CPD completed and also provide a letter from their employer explaining the circumstances as to why they failed to re-register on time.
